Wyndham Championship Round 1 Recap

Arjun Atwal has recently tied the course record shooting 61 at Sedgefield CC in North Carolina while playing in the first round of the season's final regular season event the Wyndham Championship. He currently holds a Two-Stroke lead going into Friday's second round action. This course which holds the event before the first playoff event The Barclays, Has only had one other player shoot a 61 and that was Carl Pettersson two years ago. Pettersson then went on to win. Atwal hoping he holds on too win as well, shot 9-under par on this par 70 golf course. 2007 champion Brandt Snedeker shot an opening round 63 (two behind Atwal). Kevin Streelman, David Toms, Jeev Milka-Singh, Boo Weekley, John Rollins, and 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover are all players who shot a score of 64. Six different players shot 65. It was wet at Sedgefield which made the greens soft and judging on how well the players scored today they certainly took advantage of the slightly easier play. Atwal who lost his card last month would benefit from a win here which would most certainly allow him to regain his Tour Card. Atwal had Zero bogeys in his Back Nine earlier today and finished the day not making a bogey in the Front Nine. He birdied 3 out of his 4 remaining holes to end the day with a 9-under 61. Jay Williamson birdied 4 of his opening 5 holes and ended up being one of those Half-Dozen players to shoot a 65. John Mallinger shot to the top of the leaderboard with a string of birdies in his back nine but then bogeyed the eighteenth with a three-putt performance but still carded a 65. David Toms birdied 15-16-17 to get to 7-under but similar to Mallinger bogeyed the eighteenth to shoot a 64.
Well the horn did not sound this year as it did continuously in last years tournament but the greens were damp which caused players to leave putts short.

All players geared up and ready to take to the course tommorow at 3:00 pm eastern time coverage is on the golf channel.

Come back later and I will update Make a Divot your place for Golf Everything!
